The definition of an endothermic reaction in chemistry is to say the least, not exactly what you may think. This means that there are two elements that work together for one end and then they both work against each other for the other end. The end which gets the reaction started also gets the end result; basically the end which is balanced is what gets the reaction started. Some examples of such things include a piece of metal sticking up to get air to move, a non-reactive chemical mixed with a reactive one in order to get the reaction started, or a piece of metal with some other component that helps to get the reaction started.When you break down som e chemical compounds, like ammonia or carbon monoxide, there are actually catalysts within these compounds that are used for the endothermic reaction to happen. For example, if there were no catalyst, the reaction would take place at the surface of the gas, or if there was none on the surface at all, it would take place at the middle of the gas, or in a small room where the gases were mixed together. Examples of chemical compounds that would allow for this reaction to occur are methane and water, or isopropyl alcohol and methanol.Now that you have an idea of what the term means, it is important to note that chemical reactions do not necessarily need to be strictly in the endothermic way. A simple example would be a reaction between two water molecules with each other, which would be an exothermic reaction. Another example would be a reaction between two hydrogen atoms and one carbon atom, which would also be exothermic.Something else to note is that the existence of certain reaction can change a reaction into an exothermic one. For example, a reaction that takes place between a neutral molecule and a complex molecule will turn that complex molecule into an exothermic compound. In addition, compounds can be made by combining exothermic compounds, but not vice versa.Chemistry has been one of the most interesting branches of Science. It can be both incredibly hard and incredibly easy. Also, when you are studying Chemistry, it is important to be able to recognize different reactions and what reaction they are related to. Reading online, watching videos, or listening to audio lectures on your own is a great way to get this information, and the best way to learn is to be involved in it.
